Bhubaneswar: Police arrested the prime accused Pravat Martha and his associated in connection with firing at BJD corporator Sridhar Jena's family members here in the city.
Pravat Martha was the corporator candidate of BJP in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections last year.
So far, four accused persons in this incident have been apprehended by police.
According to reports, two family members of Sridhar Jena were injured in a firing incident at Laxmisagar area on Wednesday night.
The incident took place just a few meters away from the Laxmisagar police station in Bhubaneswar.
At around 11 pm on June 28, Alok Kumar Jena, the elder nephew of corporator Sridhar Jena, encountered a group of people who allegedly obstructed his way by parking their vehicle in front of his. The situation escalated into heated argument, resulting in gunfire.
“After my nephew called us to inform us about the incident, my elder brother, younger nephew, and I rushed to the scene. Upon our arrival, the accused individuals started verbally abusing us. Subsequently, one of them took out a pistol and fired six shots in the air. Shockingly, all of this unfolded in the presence of police officials,” the corporator had told media.
“When the police seized the pistol from him, he pulled out another one and shot my elder brother and nephew,” he added.
Police arrested two persons following questioning in the incident.
