Cuttack: Two youths lost their lives and two others sustained critical injuries in a firing at a concert held at Katikata Bazaar under Nischintakoili police limits in Odisha's Cuttack district last night.

According to reports, a heated exchange of words took place between Sheikh Imran (25) of Parasailo village and a person at the concert. It soon took an ugly turn as the person took out a gun and fired at Imran killing him on the spot.

As others present at the concert approached towards the spot, the person opened fire at them, as a result of which three of them sustained critical bullet injuries.

The injured ones, identified as Raghunath Mallik (16), Nityananda Mallik (30) and Uttam Das (30), were admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.

However, Nityananda succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital today.

The accused managed to flee the spot after the gathering ran helter-skelter during the firing. Police have started investigation into the incident and efforts are on to nab the wrongdoer.
