Firing at NIFT girl student: ‘Mysterious’ youth held in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today arrested another youth in connection with the firing at a girl student studying at NIFT in Infocity area in Bhubaneswar. Earlier, the victim’s male friend, Asish Kumar Nayak was held for his alleged involvement in the case.

Though police earlier said Asish was present with the girl student when the incident took place at a rented house in Sishu Vihar in Infocity area, the arrest of another youth, Tuka in connection with the case has raised suspicion.

Police sources said Tuka present at the victim’s flat when the firing incident took place.

Also, the girl student’s father alleged, “Tuka’s wife might also be involved in hatching a conspiracy in executing the firing. She had earlier issued threatening to her.”

Asked why Tuka’s wife would target his girl student, father of the victim added, “Tuka’s wife was suspecting a relationship between my daughter and Tuka. She wanted to kill my daughter. Tuka and his wife are prime accused whereas Asish has got a contract (supari) to kill my daughter.”

Sources said the victim told police in her statement that while she was sleeping, the two youths barged into her room and threatened her brandishing gun. When the victim did not believe them and said it was a toy gun, they fired at her.

Later Asish created a story to mislead the police, said sources adding that wife of Tuka will be questioned as well. Police investigation into the case is on.
