Firing near Puri Gundicha Temple: Notorious criminal nabbed after encounter

Puri: Notorious criminal Jitendra Sahu alias Jitu was held after police encounter here late on Friday night.

He sustained bullet injuries on his right leg.

The most wanted criminal Jitu is allegedly involved in the murder of Sanjay Behera alias Para near Gundicha Temple last month.

He was nabbed by the police after an encounter on Pipili-Jatni Road late on last night.

According to reports, a special team of Puri Kumbharpara and Pipili police caught Jitu following an exchange of fire near Barimula Square on Pipili-Jatni Road.

The encounter took place while Jitu was moving on a bike on Pipili-Jatni Road and the cops intercepted him near Barimula chhak. Initially, Jitu opened fire to flee from the spot. However, the police managed to nab him alive during the exchange of fire. He sustained injuries in retaliation.

The police seized a bike, mobile phone, pistol and two live bullets from his possession.

Several criminal cases are registered against Jitu in various police stations in Puri and adjoining areas. He was the most wanted criminal in Para murder case.

Worth mentioning, the prime accused of the Para murder case Muna Parida has recently surrendered before a local court in Nimapada.
