The head of the US Coronavirus vaccine program informed that the first COVID-19 vaccine in America could happen early on 11th December.
According to the BBC reports, Dr. Moncef Slaoui stated that the plan was to ‘Ship vaccines to the immunization sites within 24 hours’ of a vaccine being approved. He further said that they plan to export the vaccinations to other states within 24 hours of the expected FDA approval.
This will happen just two days after the FDA advisory committee’s conference, which will review the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc’s request for emergency use of the permission for its Coronavirus vaccine candidate. According to the data assembled by Johns Hopkins University till now, the US has recorded more than 12 million cases, of which 2,55,000 deaths.
Recently Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech declared that the vaccine seems 95 percent adequate at inhibiting moderate to severe COVID-19 disease. The vaccine, which requires two doses, has been shown by tests to be 95% efficient. Pfizer expects to generate up to 50 million quantities by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Russian drug maker Sputnik V alleged that its vaccine would be cheaper than Moderna and Pfizer. Moderna had earlier stated that its vaccine might cost between $25 and $37 per dose. Sputnik said via Twitter – “Translating pharma lingo: the announced price of Pfizer of $19.50 and Moderna of $25-$37 per dose actually means their price of $39 and $50-$74 per person. Two doses are required per person for the Pfizer, Sputnik V, and Moderna vaccines. The price of Sputnik V will be much lower.”
According to the BBC report Dr. Anthony Fauci, the US’s top infectious disease expert, stated that the US could reach people immunity against Coronavirus soon, in fact by next year if enough Americans are vaccinated. The full analysis data has yet to be proclaimed, and the companies involved informed that there have been no serious safety concerns.
It is unclear how long the vaccination will help to give protection or if it will help to stop people from transmitting the virus.
