The first batch of 100 MBBS students passed out of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) and Sum Hospital here today.

SOA-IMS“You were a talented batch both in studies and extra-curricular activities. I will advise you not to be afraid of failure as it teaches you things you would not have learnt any other way,” dean, Dr Kiran Dukhu told the passed out students who had taken admission in September 2007.

The Medical Director of IMS and Sum Hospital, Prof DK Ray advised the students to be good human beings first. “But keep in touch with this institute, don’t cut the umbilical chord,” he advised.

“From tomorrow, you will be on your own and enter the society as doctors. I have found this batch of students excellent because of their attitude, intelligence and behaviour,” said Dr Laxmidhar Roul, one of the faculty members from the department of medicine.

Dr Prakash Kumar Sahu, faculty in surgery, told the students to be honest doctors. “If you are honest, you’ll be successful. Please keep in mind that you can be a very good doctor even if you never were a very good student,” he said.

Medical Superintendent, Prof PK Mohanty, additional dean, Prof NK Debata and another faculty member Dr Rajesh Lenka also spoke.

Several other senior faculty members were also present on the occasion.
