Panic gripped Odisha’s Puri town following the death of a youth at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Sunday.
Besides, three more patients also died on the same day in Sambalpur.
According to reports, Samir Sahu (23), a native of Aitota near the bus stand area under Kumbharapada police station limits was afflicted with jaundice since last 10 days.
The family members had admitted him to the district headquarters hospital. But as his condition became critical, he was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he died on Monday.
Besides, three more patients also died of jaundice in Sambalpur.
Gopal Kedia (39), a local trader of Dhobapada locality of Badabazar area was suffering from jaundice since November last year. He was shifted to a hospital at Vizag. After his partial recovery, the family members later brought him to Sambalpur. However, his condition became critical after a few days. Later he was admitted to a private hospital in Raipur where he died on Monday.
While an auto-rickshaw driver Badri Narayan Sahu (38) also died at the VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla on the same day, Pravasini Behera, a 26-year-old woman from Badabazar area also died of the disease at Amri Hospital in Bhubaneswar in the evening after giving birth to a baby girl.
Sources in the Sadar Hospital in Sambalpur said a total of 1904 patients had come to outdoor ward on Monday of which seven were tested positive.
Besides, two patients each at the VSS Medical College and a private hospital in Sambalpur were also tested positive, reports said.
