Puri, Jun 1:

Stainless steel sheets weighing about three tonnes reached Odisha’s Puri today.

Stainless Steel for Jagamohana

These sheets to be used for repair and conservation of the Jagamohana of the Shree Jagannath temple have been procured on the basis of recommendations of the technical core committee and experts of IIT Madras.

Another 18 tonnes of stainless steel will be required for Jagamohana repair, today’s consignment being the first lot, said sources.

The material will be sourced from Mumbai, the sources added.

“Today’s consignment contains three stainless steel sheets. Dimensions of these sheets are 20 feet long, five feet wide and 1.5 inches thick. These sheets will be used for repair of column capital of the four columns of the Jagamohana,” said Ashish Subudhi, executive engineer of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

“18 tonnes of stainless steel will be procured from Mumbai for repairing seven pockets of the Jagamohana. These will come in the shape of boxes and not as sheets. We have already placed orders for it,” Subudhi added.

Repair work will be undertaken during the Lord’s stay at the Mausima temple.
