Bhubaneswar: Voter turnout stood at 39.30% by 1 pm during the first phase of twin polls in Odisha, today.
Four parliamentary constituencies-- Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Berhampur, and Koraput-- and 28 assembly seats went to polls in this phase. Altogether, 62,87,222 voters, including 30,97, 527 men and 31,89,060 women, were registered to exercise their franchise at 7,303 polling booths. The voters will decide the fate of 37 candidates for four Lok Sabha seats and 243 candidates for 28 Assembly seats.
The voter participation in Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat was 42.67%, followed by Nabarangpur (42.65%), Koraput (36.64%), and Berhampur (34.97%) by 1 pm.
The voting process remained peaceful, with no untoward incidents reported at any polling stations, Election Commission officials said.
Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Dhal informed that some Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) glitches were reported and promptly addressed within 30 minutes. A total of 65 Ballot Units, 83 Control Units, and 110 VVPATs were replaced during this phase, he said.
