Bhubaneswar, Nov 30:

NRI BR OPENING ENG - Copy

State Bank of India (SBI) opened its first Non Resident Indian (NRI) branch in Odisha at Ganga Nagar here on Saturday.

The NRI branch was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra in the presence of Krishna Mohan Trivedi, Chief General Manager, Rajiv Varma, General Manager (NW-I) and PVSLN Murthy, General Manager (NW-II).

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary hoped that the NRI branch would serve the long felt need of local NRIs and the people of the state in general. He also handed over pass books to the few newly opened accounts of NRI customers and NRI housing loan customers.

Trivedi said the branch would provide the full range of financial services to the NRIs, including foreign currency accounts, Indian Rupee accounts, remittance facilities from/to across the globe and access to various investment opportunities specially tailored to the needs to NRIs.

This will go a long way in meeting an old demand of NRIs from the state, said Trivedi. Depending upon the success of the branch, such branches will be opened in other parts of the state, he added.
