Marine fishing restricted in Odisha sea from today

To facilitate unhindered breeding of aquatic life in the Bay of Bengal marine fishing will be banned  in sea from today  for two months along Odisha coast.

The ban on sea fishing is imposed every year for 45 days, under Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act.

The step has been taken for preserving the aquatic life and increasing the fish population.

The fishermen have been notified that the fishing restriction will continue from April 15 to June 15.

The period during which the sea fishermen are banned from fishing, they will be given compensation by the government.  An amount of Rs 2,700 will be deposited in the account of  the fishermen.

According to the scheme, the beneficiaries need to deposit Rs 100 every month from July to March. After 900 hundred rupees are deposited in the account the state government will give Rs 900 and later add Rs 900 by the central government. This fund is given to the beneficiary during the fishing ban period.

Meanwhile, the fishermen have alleged that the government money is not being disbursed for last three years.
