Fitment Committee likely to submit report to Odisha govt tomorrow

With the extended deadline for submission of the report by the Fitment Committee for implementation of the recommendation of 7^th Pay Commission for Odisha government employees ending tomorrow, the latter are hopeful that the panel would submit its draft report to the government tomorrow which would bring good tidings for them.

The Fitment Committee is likely to meet tomorrow to finalize on its draft report.

“We have identified the issues connected to HR, management and all. We have identified some issue also. It’s a process. We have already had a meeting recently. We are planning to have a meeting tomorrow also. Future course of action you will come to know when we do it,” said R Balakrishna Development Commissioner and Chairman of the Fitment Committee.

Following acceptance of the draft report of the Fitment Committee by the Cabinet, employees will receive hiked salary.

The state government had on October 31, last year, constituted a six-member Fitment Committee for determining modalities for implementation of recommendations of the 7^th Pay Commission for its employees.

With Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan as the head of the Fitment Committee, the government had directed it to submit its report within four months.

Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, Finance Secretary Tuhin Kant Pandey, Forest and Environment Secretary Suresh Mohapatra, Special Secretaries in the department of Finance A K Meena and Aswini Mishra were named members of the Committee.

However, the Fitment Committee’s deadline to submit the report which ended on February 28 was further extended by another two months which will end tomorrow.

The Fitment Committee apart from determining fitment of scales, ranks, allowances and pensions would also determine the burden and impact of the revision on the state government’s finances.

The Fitment Committee has taken opinion and representations from various service associations of state government employees.

However, the Finance Minister had not mentioned anything about the 7^th Pay Commission in the budget this year though he had made a provision of Rs 22,000 crore towards salary and Rs 11,313 crore towards pension.

The state government’s move to implement the recommendations of the 7^th Pay Commission would benefit about 4 lakh employees and about 3 lakh pensioners.
