Five arrested for pelting eggs on Odisha Minister’s vehicle

Puri Sea Beach police today arrested five Congress workers in connection with the incident of egg pelting on the car of Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma at the Special Circuit House here on Sunday.

The arrested Congress workers are Swadhin Kumar Panda, Amarendra Paikara, Biswaranjan Samantaray, Asish Das and Aditya Narayan Pani.

Around half dozen activists of Congress bearing flags in their hands had barged into the premises of the Circuit House shouting slogans against the Minister and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over large scale irregularities in ration card allocation under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and had hurled eggs and tomatoes at the vehicle of the Minister.

The activists had alleged that the people’s representatives owing allegiance to the ruling party in the state have enrolled themselves under the NFSA to avail the benefits of subsidised food grains and despite their names figuring in the list, the government isn’t initiating action against them.
