Five held in connection with VLW’s death in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The police today detained five persons in connection with the death of a Village Level Worker (VLW) in Baligari under Dharmasala block of Jajpur district. Sources said the detainees are being questioned about their alleged involvement in the case.

Yesterday body of the VLW was found hanging in a guest house in Baligari. After disbursing allowances in Bhadanga village, the VLW, Smitarani Biswal had gone to the guest house of Rupesh Bhadra, husband of Haridaspur sarpanch Madhusmita Bhadra.

While Rupesh and his friends were busy with preparing meals, Smitarani had gone to the first floor of the guest house to freshen up. “Later she was found hanging with her chunri from a ceiling fan in the guesthouse,” Rupesh had said.

The father of the deceased had filed a complaint with the police over the death of his daughter alleging foul play.
