Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Jan 30:

After initiating stringent action against three city-based hotels, Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) is all set to seal five more hotels in the capital city for violating its norms.

HOTEL ARYA PALACE

The hotels which are to be sealed are Hotel Urmee, Highway inn, Hotel Sriya in Rasulgarh Square, Hotel Bari International in Nayapalli and Hotel Annapurna in Mancheswar, sources said.

Yesterday, Hotel Arya Palace and Nirmal Inn in Ashok Nagar and Bapuji Nagar-based Hotel Pelican were sealed by the Board.

At around 11:30 am, officials of State Pollution Control Board officers along with Central Electricity Services Utility (Cesu) and Public Health and Engineering Organisation (PHEO) and commissionerate police reached Hotel Arya Palace and disconnected electricity, water and power back up facilities. The other two hotels also faced the same fate.

The State Pollution Board has sent show cause notices to the eight hotels, but they had ignored the notices. The pollution board therefore decided to seal these eight hotels.

These hotels were violating National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders. They had not taken permission from the pollution board. They had also violated Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981, as well as the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974. Therefore, action was taken against them, said pollution board regional officer, Hadibandhu Panigrahi.
