While more are feared to be under the debris, the five injured have been rushed to the district headquarters hospital.

Policemen, ODRAF, NDRF, firefighting personnel and locals along with earth moving machinery and cranes are engaged in the rescue operation as more men are suspected to be trapped under the debris.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 1.30 PM while workers were engaged in roof casting of the under construction hostel building of CIPET when it suddenly collapsed.

Locals who were the first to rescue the trapped workers expressed resentment over delayed arrival of ambulance and machinery (nearly two hours after the accident) despite several calls to them.

Two cranes, three excavators, three fire engines and an equal number of ambulances have been deployed in the rescue operation. Earth moving machines are having little difficulty in speeding up their action since the soil around the accident site is soft.

Balasore ADM, SP and Tehsildar are at the collapse site supervising rescue operations.
