Flight service from Odisha’s Rairangpur to Chhattisgarh via Rourkela to begin soon

Bhubaneswar: Rairangpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj will get connected to neighbouring Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur by air via Rourkela as a passenger flight service is to begin soon, a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation revealed today.

Dandbose airstrip located on the outskirts of Rairangpur town has been included as part of Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) regional airport development program of the Government of India.

In the first phase, a 19-seat scheduled flight will regularly shuttle between Rairangpur and Ambikapur. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has written a letter to Big Charter Private Limited in this regard.

Worth mentioning, the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) of the Central Government earlier approved the fund allocation for this in its 13th meeting on March 5.

Besides, the Dandbose airstrip will developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 45 Crore under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of the Government of India. The development project includes a flight terminal building and few other amenities for the passengers, an official source said.
