Bhubaneswar: Odisha government approved a Memorandum of Understanding with e-commerce major Flipkart to promote the state handlooms and handicrafts in national market.

The MoU was given nod by the Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department on Saturday.

The move will enable more than 2 lakh households engaged in handlooms and handicrafts in Odisha to have growing Pan-India market access.

Under the MoU, the Flipkart will implement 'Flipkart Samarth Programme' in Odisha to increase business and provide opportunities to weavers, artisans and craftsmen to showcase their products with time-bound incubation support.

As part of the initiative, Odisha government will work with Flipkart for engagement with the state-owned and affiliated enterprises and undertakings that work with local weavers, artisans and craftsmen to provide market access, training and support.

The Flipkart Samarth Programme will open national market access for the weavers, artisans of the state and empower them to get benefits on e-commerce platform.
