Flood-like situation arises in Jajpur in aftermath of cyclone Yaas

Bhubaneswar: Swelling of Baitarani river caused by heavy rain under the influence of the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas has led to flood-like situation in three blocks of Jajpur district.

As per reports, floodwater has gushed into low-laying areas of Jajpur and Dasarathpur blocks as well as Mukundapur and Bcandala Panchayats of Korai block in the district. Agriculture lands in all the three blocks have been submerged in the floodwater. The district administration has asked people residing in low-lying areas to get shifted to safer places.

The river was flowing at a height of 13.68 metre at Vallabhi Ghat as against the danger level o f 13.34 metre this morning. At Dasarathpur, the water level of the river  was 11.58 metre as against the danger level of 9.52 metre.

However, the water level at Akhuapada in Bhadrak district is gradually reducing though it is still flowing above the danger mark. The water level, which stood at 18.98 metre last night, dropped to 18.90 metre this morning as against the danger mark of 17.83 metre, sources added.
