Flood-like situation claimed 17 human lives in Odisha so far: SRC Office

Bhubaneswar: The flood-like situation in Odisha has claimed lives of 17 persons so far, said the office of the Special Relief Commissioner today.

The SRC office further mentioned 20 districts of the State have been affected due to the flood like situation following incessant rain. The affected districts are Angul, Balasore, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Puri, Sambalpur, Subarnapur and Sundargarh.

A total of 112 blocks, 896 gram panchayats, 3256 villages, 21 urban local bodies and 75 wards have been hit by the flood like situation, he said, adding that a total of 14,32,701 people have been affected.

As many as 10,382 houses have been damaged and 1,68,904 hectares of crop were affected in the flood.

The government deployed 45 medical teams and 42 veterinary teams in the affected areas.

A total of 14 NDRF, 17 ODRAF and 22 Fire Services teams have been engaged to undertake relief and rescue operations in the flood-hit areas.

There were 32 breaches on river embankment in five districts, it added.
