Malkangiri: Incessant rainfall in Odisha’s Malkangiri has resulted in flood-like situation in several parts of the district, especially in Kalimela and Padia blocks.
Many residential areas have been inundated due to increase in water level in the river and canals in the district. Road communication has been disrupted as water was seen flowing over several bridges in the areas at Potteru Kanyashram, Kangarukonda, MV-90 and MV -96.
Kalimela block experienced heavy downpour during the last three days while vehicular movement between Kalimela-Malkangiri, Kalimela-Motu and Kalimela-Padia has come to a grinding halt. The situation was similar in Padia block as Saberi river swelled up owing to heavy rainfall.
The district administration has arranged temporary shelters for the affected people and urged them not to go outside. The situation is being monitored by the administration with the help of police and Fire personnel.
