Flood threat looms in three Odisha districts

Keonjhar/Jajpur: Baitarani river’s water level crossed danger mark at Anandapur in Odisha’s Keonjhar today which is likely to cause flood in low-lying areas of Jajpur, Bhadrak and Keonjhar districts.

The Jajpur district administration has been alerted by the State Government regarding the possible flood situation. Korei, Jajpur, Dasarathpur, Binjharpur, and Bari blocks of the district are likely to be affected. The Collector has advised the residents of the areas to shift to safe places.

Headmasters have been instructed to open schools in low-lying areas for providing shelter to the affected people.

The river also crossed danger mark at Akhuapada in Bhadrak district as water was flowing at 18.27 m around 1 PM against the danger mark of 17.83 m.

On the other hand, the Regional Meteorological Centre has issued ‘Red Warning’ for Sambalpur, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj districts.

Likely Impact:

1-Water logging in low lying areas and localized flood/flash flood in some areas.
2-Some damage to informal road and kutcha house.
3- Traffic congestion and disruption of municipal services due to waterlogging in urban areas.
4-Landslides in hilly areas.
5- Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.
