Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police today detained three Congress workers for their alleged involvement in flooding the office of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) here yesterday.

According to reports, Nayapalli police picked the three activists from their respective houses last night on charges of trying to damage public property. They will be forwarded to court, sources said.

Opposing the detention, many Congress leaders and workers today gheraoed the Nayapalli police station demanding the release of the trio.

Notably, several Congress workers yesterday barged into the office of Project Director, NHAI here and poured water in the building through a pipe from a tanker, thereby flooding it.

They also went to the first floor and other parts of the building and repeated the act before leaving the spot.

The protest by the Congress workers came a day after NH-16 in front of the Iskcon temple here was inundated following a spell of rain in the city submerging some cars and auto-rickshaws.
