Bhubaneswar: Without having ice skating rink or proper infrastructure, Odisha team has managed to debut at National Ice Skating Camp for the upcoming National Ice Skating Championship, to be held in Haryana.
The national camp will be held at ISKATE, Gurugram from 22nd-26th November, informed Odisha Ice Skating Association (OISA) Secretary Partha Sarathi Jena.
The popular Olympic sport marked its presence in India in 2002. The Ice Skating Association of India (ISAI) introduced this in the country. However, the sport was introduced in Odisha recently by renowned coach and former state champion and national player Partha Sarathi Jena.
Though there is no ice skating rink in the state, the sportspersons have trained them well so that they do not face any difficulty on the ice rink, Jena expressed.
The 12-member team shortlisted comprises of Arman Subudhi, Ashlesha Panda, Sai Sriyansu Rout, Aditya Mishra, Biren Das, RN Aryan, Swayansu S Kanungo, Kaustav Patnaik, Krupa Doshi and Kushi Agarwal. The players have been trained by Odisha Skating Academy.
