Forest fire threatens wildlife in Odisha

Forest fire has been raging for the last few days in Mayurbhanj district’s Simlipal national park and its neighbouring areas endangering the wildlife population here in Odisha.

After some locals lighted the dried leaves lying on the forest ground the fire has been blazing. With the forest department is not taking any action against the fire or creating awareness to stop such activity, it has resulted in the animals running wild due to the heat and smoke.

In many areas hunters and smugglers are putting the forest fire to catch wild animals, locals have alleged. Every year the locals also burn the dry leaves to collect forest produce during summer season.

Forest fires are raging in the jungles of  various blocks like Udala, Kaptipada,Khunta, Shyamakhunta, Bangriposh, Kuliana,Suliapada.
