Vigilance department sleuths today arrested a forester of Patna range in Keonjhar district on charges of accepting illegal gratification.

Forester Umakanta Mohanta was caught red handed by Vigilance department sleuths while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Millan Kumar Mohanta of Delsarai village under Patna police limits in Keonjhar district for not registering a case against him under the Forest Act, said a press note of the Vigilance Directorate.

Reportedly, Millan Kumar Mohanta had purchased a bombax tree from one Chamaru Munda of village Delsarai. Accused Umakanta Mohanta had threatened to forward him in a Forest Case for the purchase.

Vigilance department officers seized Rs 10,000 from the shirt pocket of accused forester Umakanta Mohanta in the presence of witnesses. Washing of his hand and shirt pocket resulted in a positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance of bribe, the press note said.

Further investigations are on.
