Former Jagatsinghpur MP Trilochan Kanungo passes away

Bhubaneswar: Former Jagatsinghpur MP Trilochan Kanungo passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Odisha capital, today. He was 82.

The veteran leader was admitted to the healthcare facility on March 30 due to illness. However, he breathed his last, this morning, family sources said.

Kanungo was elected to the Lok Sabha from Jagatsinghpur Parliamentary Constituency in 1999. He had successfully contested the polls as a BJD candidate.

He was also elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly thrice.

Born on November 24, 1940 at Badamulei village in Cuttack district, Kanungo was residing in Sheikh Bazaar area of Cuttack city for the last few years.

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of senior politician and former parliamentarian Trilochan Kanungo. His work in public service will always be remembered. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to the bereaved family,” said Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The CM also announced that Kanungo’s last rites will be conducted will full state honours.
