Former MLA assaulted in Odisha’s Remuna for bribing voters

Remuna, Feb 18:

A former legislator of Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today faced the public ire for allegedly distributing cash in Odisha’s Balasore district.

According to reports, the former MLA from Remuna constituency Sudarshan Jena was beaten up by locals at Sarkar Nagar under Saraswatipur panchayat while he was on a visit to the village.

The politician was thrashed for allegedly adopting a partisan attitude while distributing cash and sari to voters. The former lawmaker distributed Rs 100 and Rs 200 to villagers which gave rise to dissatisfaction among them.

The incident happened a day before the fourth phase panchayat election was to be held tomorrow.

No complaint was lodged till the filing of this report.
