Odisha’s Draupadi Murmu sworn in as Jharkhand Governor

Ranchi, May 18:

Former Odisha minister and two-time BJP MLA of Rairangpur Draupadi Murmu was sworn in as Governor of Jharkhand this morning.

Draupadi MurmuMurmu was administered with oath and secrecy by the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Justice Virender Singh in a swearing-in ceremony at Birsa Mandap in the Raj Bhawan premises.

With this, she became the first woman leader from Odisha to be appointed as Governor.

Murmu, who became the ninth governor of Jharkhand, replaced Dr Syed Ahmed who has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Manipur for the remainder of his term.

Earlier in the day, Murmu left Rairangpur in a special helicopter and arrived at Ranchi.

The 58-year-old tribal leader from Mayurbhanj district was elected twice from the Rairangpur Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket.
