Former Odisha MLA Nityananda Samantaray passes away

Cuttack: Nityananda Samantaray, former Odisha legislator and father of Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debasish Samantaray, passed away today at Rajabagicha here. He was 85.

Born on April 24, 1933, Samantaray was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Tirtol constituency of Jagatsinghpur district as a Congress candidate in 1985.

A litterateur and automobile engineer, Samantaray was also associated with various educational institutions. He was the president of Jagatpur High School, Samantarapur High School and member of Governing Body of Tirtol College.

A pall of gloom descended on Tirtol area after the demise of the politician. Leaders of various political parties and bureaucrats reached his residence at Rajabagicha and paid floral tributes.
