Former Odisha MP Pyari Babu consigned to flames

Bhubaneswar, Mar 20:

Hundreds of people including Ministers, MPs and several eminent persons paid a tearful adieu to former Odisha MP Pyarimohan Mohapatra as his mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Satyanagar crematorium here this evening.

The departed leader’s eldest son Sambit lit the funeral pyre.

After arrival of the former MP’s body at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here in the afternoon from Mumbai, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, several Ministers and political leaders across party lines had a last glimpse of the departed leader and paid rich tributes to him.

From the airport, the body was taken to his Saheed Nagar residence and kept for last darshan. People from various walks of life thronged the A/111 residence of Mohapatra. In the evening, the body was taken to the Satya Nagar crematorium in a procession amid chants of ‘Ram Naam Satya Hai, Hari Naam Satya Hai’ and ‘Pyari Babu Amar Rahe’.

The former bureaucrat-turned-politician breathed his last late yesterday night following a brief illness at a private hospital in Mumbai.
