Founder of Odisha Jana Morcha and former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Pyarimohan Mohapatra’s health condition turned critical as he has been put on life support system at a private hospital in Mumbai, family sources said today.

According to sources, he has been put on ventilator support in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai as his condition turned critical.

His condition remained grim, sources added.

As per reports, Mohapatra was undergoing treatment in Mumbai since last six months. First he was undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital and later at Hinduja Hospital.

“His health condition has turned critical since today morning. He has been put on ventilator support,” Mohapatra’s wife Prativa told media.

Mohapatra had undergone two surgeries after he was detected with a malignant tumor in lungs. He was also administered chemotherapy for the ailment.

The 77-year-old bureaucrat-turned politician was the chief strategist of the Biju Janata Dal and used to call the shots till he fell from grace of party supremo Naveen Patnaik after the alleged midnight coup in 2012.
