Former Odisha MP Pyarimohan Mohapatra passes away

Former Rajya Sabha MP and founder of Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) Pyarimohan Mohapatra passed away at the Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai at about 9.40 Pm this evening, family sources said. He was 77.

Leaders across party lines condoled the death of the former Rajya Sabha member born in Talcher on January 25,1940.

Notably, the 77-year-old bureaucrat-turned politician was put on ventilator support since Friday morning after his health condition deteriorated.

Mohapatra was undergoing treatment in Mumbai since last six months. First he was undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital and later at Hinduja Hospital. He was detected with a malignant tumor in lungs.

Mohapatra had undergone two surgeries after he was detected with a malignant tumor in his lungs. He was also administered chemotherapy for the ailment.

The bureaucrat-turned politician was the chief strategist of the Biju Janata Dal and used to call the shots till he fell from grace of party supremo Naveen Patnaik after the alleged midnight coup in 2012.
