Four arrested in city for selling SIMs without documents

Bhubaneswar, Mar 15:

Four persons were arrested in the Odisha capital today for selling SIM cards without obtaining documents supporting the identity of the customers.

Police have also seized around 50 SIM cards of various Cellular networks from the accused.

The accused have been identified as Tapan Naik, Susant Biswal, Bibhuti Mohanty and Banambar Das, all owners of retail shops of SIM cards.

Police said that they have been selling SIM cards in Saheed Nagar area for the past few months and the police arrested them after some residents complained about it.

“We raided these shops and found that they had sold several SIM cards without keeping identity proofs. We are also ascertaining the number of SIM cards sold without proper documents. They were arrested under sections 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation) 465 (punishment for forgery), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of Indian Penal Code (IPC),” said Inspector-in-charge of Saheed Nagar police station, Deepak Kumar Mishra.
