Three inter-state dacoits held in Rourkela

Three dacoits were arrested on Tuesday while planning to commit robbery in the steel city and Kalunga near here, police said today. Three of their accomplices are at large, they said.

The police seized two live ammunitions, one bhujali, two country made single-shot pistols, two torch lights, two candles, one matchbox, four mobile phones, four monkey caps and a map of Kalunga from their possession.

The arrested persons are Jogeswar Singh (22) alias Mantu of Guphu village under Torpa police limits in Jharkhand presently staying at Nangalkata Barsuan under Lahunipada police limits in Sundargarh district, Narayan Singh (22) alias Bikash of Ghunsera village under Basia police limits in Jharkhand presently staying at Birda under Brahmanitarang police station in Sundargarh district and Pradeep Kishan (24) of Sambalpur. They were booked under Section 399, 402 of IPC and 25/27 of the Arms act and forwarded to the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court, Panposh on Wednesday, police said.

The three absconding dacoits are Sanjay Sethi of Gurundia, Dillip Minz of Teliposh in Kuarmunda and Shankar Gouda of San Nuagaon, police sources said.

A manhunt is on to nab the other three culprits who are still at large, Rourkela Superintendent of Police Amitendranath Sinha said in a press conference at Brahmanitarang police station.

According to Sinha, acting on a tip-off, a patrolling team led by sub-inspectors Alekha Chandra Sethy and Samara Oram raided several places in Kalunga area on Tuesday evening and located a six-member looter gang near St. Gregorious School ground of Kalunga. The team, however, nabbed three of them while the other three managed to flee.

On interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed dacoity with their other associates from Barsuan State Bank of India (SBI), Tensa SBI under Lahunipada police station, Bimlagarh SBI under K Balang police station and Utkal Gramya Bank of Bhojpur under Kuchinda police station in Sambalpur district and looted Rs 9.22 lakh and 9 mobile phones at gun point.

“We have arrested three persons who were planning to commit bank dacoity in Kalunga and Rourkela area,” said Sinha adding all accused are inter-state bank looters whose primary job is to loot banks located at remote areas in Sundargarh district where security arrangements are weak.

The three nabbed accused were earlier booked in many cases in different police stations of Sundargarh district.
