Four held in Odisha’s Kendrapara for spreading misinformation about COVID-19

Kendrapara: The police today arrested four persons in Kendrapara district for allegedly spreading misinformation about coronavirus (COVID-19). As per reports, Niranjan Parida of Kansara village, Dhrutiranjan Barik of Madhapur village, Sibasish Mohanty of Chandola village and Prafulla Das from Madarapur village were circulating wrong information about the disease on WhatsApp. They had formed a group on the social media app and circulating the misleading messages in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Few days back the Rayagada Police arrested one Satyanarayan Samal alias Dipu from Ambadala on charges of posting wrong information about coronavirus on Facebook. After Rayagada Collector Pramod Kumar Behera directed the police to inquire the matter, cops registered a case and took Satyanarayan into its custody.

A teacher from Dudukela village under Golamunda police limits in Kalahandi district was arrested for circulating wrong information about coronavirus. In a social media post, the teacher of a private school, Bindu Mahananda said that a youth infected with the disease has kept himself locked from inside in Khaliakani village. Following this, BDO and police officials visited Khaliakani and found the information to be baseless. Police registered a case after preliminary probe and arrested the teacher.
