Four migrants flee quarantine centre in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Rourkela: Four migrant returnees escaped from an institutional quarantine centre at Sola school under Gurundia block in Sundargarh district in the wee hours today.

As per reports, the four migrants, who fled the quarantine after jumping off the school’s boundary wall as the gates were locked, are residents of Nuapali and Ulundajharana villages under Sola panchayat. While two persons of them returned from Kerala, other two came back from Maharashtra two weeks back.

Alleging lack of basic facilities and poor quality of food being provided at the quarantine centre, inmates earlier lodged complaints before the local Sarpanch.

Also, some inmates at the quarantine centre had filed a police complaint at Gurundia police station against the Sarpanch. But their requests fell on deaf ears only, said one of the returnee migrants.

A total of 23 migrants were staying at the quarantine centre.
