Jagatsinghpur: As many as four members of a family were charred to death after fire broke out inside their house at Banapata village under Kujanga police limits in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district late last night.
The deceased have been identified as Nabaghana Sahu, his wife Kamala Sahu, their daughter Rubina and Harekrushna Mallik, the couple's son-in-law.
While Nabaghana, Kamala and Harekrushna died on the spot, Rubina sustained critical burn injuries and was rushed to the Kujanga hospital. As her condition deteriorated, it was decided to shift her to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. However, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.
Though the exact reason behind the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained, Rubina, while being treated at the Kujanga hospital, unclearly mentioned the name of his husband Harekrushna alleging that he set the house on fire and got killed while trying to escape.
A pall of gloom descended on the village after the tragic incident. On being informed, Fire personnel reached the spot and doused the flames. The bodies have been recovered by police. Investigation into the matter is underway.
