Four youths held for gang-raping woman

New Delhi, June 5:

A 27-year-old woman from West Bengal was gang-raped by four youths in the early hours of Monday in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area, police said.

Police said the crime came to light after the woman shared her ordeal with an area resident, who informed police.

Accused Pawan, Neeraj, Sahil, and Sandeep — all in the age group of 20-25 — are residents of Panipat and Gurugram in Haryana and Munirka in Delhi and work as casual labourers.

They were arrested from the crime spot in Om Vihar.

“The woman had arrived in the area on her own. She was later seen sitting in the street by a neighbour who called the Police Control Room (PCR),” a senior police officer said.

“She was reluctant to file a complaint initially but later relented. A medical examination was done on her and counselling provided to her. She also got her statement recorded before a Magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” the officer added.

Police said a preliminary probe indicated a money dispute between the woman and the accused. (IANS)
