Fraudster arrested for duping jobseekers of around Rs 59.25 Lakh in Odisha’s Balasore

Cuttack: A team of officials from Cyber PS in Cuttack today arrested a fraudster from Balasore for duping around Rs 59.25 Lakh on the pretext of giving jobs to several aspirants in organisations like East Coast Railway (ECoR) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) etc.

The arrested fraudster was identified as Santosh Mahuri, who hails from Balasore district.

According to official sources, the cybercriminal was impersonating himself as a close acquaintance of a Union minister and a former minister from Odisha. Some of the victim jobseekers earlier lodged an FIR with the cyber police. Acting on which, the police launched a probe and arrested Santosh.

Police have seized several fabricated identity cards, bank passbooks, and other important documents from the possession of the cyber fraudster.

“During the investigation, it was ascertained that Santosh duped job aspirants by pretending to be a relative of two ministers. A detailed probe is still underway,” a senior official expressed.
