Fresh low pressure likely by July 25; IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in several Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: Rainfall activity is very likely to increase across Odisha from July 25 due to the creation of a fresh low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours, said the IMD in its weather bulletin today.

A cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over West-Central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal on July 24. Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over the same region during subsequent 24 hours, said IMD regional centre scientist Umasankar Das today.

“The rainfall activity is very likely to go up across Odisha under the influence of the low pressure area. Some districts may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall till July 27,” Das said.

July 25: As per the IMD prediction, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Bolangir on July 25. The IMD has issued a yellow warning in this regard.

Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Boudh, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur and Nayagarh on the day.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha on July 25.

July 26: The IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangapur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Rayagada on July 26.

Similarly, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Dhenkanal on the day.

This apart, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha, said the IMD.

July 27: According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur and Koraput on July 27. The weather department has issued a yellow warning in this regard.

Besides, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Rayagada on the day.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha on July 27, said the IMD.
