Fresh low pressure may form over Bay of Bengal around September 7

Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, Odisha may experience rainfall next week as a fresh low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around September 7, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted.

As per the forecast, the low pressure area may form over eastcentral Bay of Bengal around September 7 with initial northwestwards movement towards northwest Bay of Bengal and gradual west-northwestwards movement across central India.

“Most of the weather models are indicating likely formation of a low pressure area over eastcentral Bay of Bengal around 7th September with initial northwestwards movement towards northwest Bay of Bengal during beginning of week 2 (September 9 to September 15) and gradual west-northwestwards movement across central India during middle of week 2 (September 9 to September 15),” the IMD said in its ‘North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis’.

“IMD GPP is indicating a potential zone for cyclogenesis over eastcentral Bay of Bengal around 7th September. No intensification of this system is indicated by any of the models,” it added.
