Fresh low pressure: Orange & Yellow alerts issued in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain is expected to batter several parts of Odisha starting October 19 under the influence of a fresh low pressure likely to form over Central Bay of Bengal.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre here, a low pressure area is likely to form over central Bay of Bengal around October 19 and likely to become more marked during subsequent 24 hours.

“Under its influence, enhance rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some districts of Odisha between October 19 and 21,” the weathermen said.

The MeT Centre has issued Yellow and Orange warnings for the below districts during the period.

From 8.30 AM on October 19 till 8.30 AM of October 20

Orange Warning: 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam and Gajapati.

Yellow Warning:

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Puri.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur many places over the
districts of south Odisha, north Coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north interior Odisha.

From 8.30 AM on October 20 till 8.30 AM of October 21

Orange Warning: 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati

Yellow Warning:

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Kandhamal.

This apart, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south coastal Odisha, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and at many places over the rest districts of south Odisha, north coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts north interior Odisha.

Since squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely to prevail over central Bay of Bengal due to likely formation of low pressure area, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea areas of Central Bay of Bengal on October 19 and 20, the weather bulletin reads.
