Fuel dispensing scam: Odisha DGP warns of stern action

Cuttack: Odisha DGP R P Sharma today warned of stern action against unscrupulous filling stations involved in adulteration of fuel and manipulation of fuel dispensing system using micro-chips/electronic device/remote sensors etc.

Sharma has instructed all SPs and DCPs to take appropriate action against these unscrupulous businessmen and prosecute them under sections of Indian Penal Code and under Odisha Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1951 and any other relevant law as the case may be.

He has asked SPs and DCPs to instruct their field functionaries under their control to take stock of intelligence inputs in the matter and register criminal cases against such offenders.

The DGP has also emphasized on proper co­ordination between the officers of Civil Supply and Legal Metrology (Weights & Measures) Departments for joint verification and registration of cases appropriately.

Further, Sharma has instructed SPs and DCPs to submit the result of such enforcement every month to CID, CB or through special reports.

Notably, the DGP issued the instruction following frequent allegations by people and intelligence inputs that some petrol pump retailers in connivance with some unscrupulous persons have planted electronic gadgets to manipulate the calibration system of dispensing pump amounting to forgery and cheat customers regularly by way of collecting full price for a lesser quantity of fuel delivered.
