Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: Seven movie-inspired Ganapati idols leave internet divided

Bhubaneswar: While religious fervor and spiritual gaiety gripped the nation on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi today, internet was abuzz with pictures of Ganesha idols inspired by celluloid characters.

Ganesh Chaturthi, one of the most extravagant celebrations in the country, has been observed in quite a low-key manner for the last two years amidst continuous lockdowns, shutdowns and isolations due to Covid-19 pandemic. However, with the cases of infections plummeting, people have gathered around in masses to celebrate with family, friends and neighbours.

Creativity knows no bound when it comes to making idols of Lord Ganesh and this year, it’s theme ‘cinema.’ Social media platforms are flooded with a number of extravagant idols of the Lord. However, this year, many have chosen to go with idols inspired by characters from Bollywood and South Indian movies. Here are some photographs:

Some of the above photographs are from previous years and have left the internet divided. While many lauded the movie-inspired idols of Lord Ganesha, many others condemned it and said it was ‘unacceptable.’

“I don’t liked this at all ? This is not acceptable. You are making fun of The God of knowledge Ganesha by framing holy sculpture as Pushpa the criminal character. I condemn this and one more thing it’s not funny at all,” one user wrote.

“I mean this where we need to stop from stem root. My concern is we are giving chance in creating like this nonsense on God. In which others are taking advantage and passing comments” another user’s comment read.
