Ganeshi Lal sworn-in as Odisha Governor

Bhubaneswar: Prof. Ganeshi Lal was this evening sworn-in as the Governor of Odisha by High Court Chief Justice Vineet Saran at a special function held at the Raj Bhawan here.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Leader of the Opposition Narasingh Mishra, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera, several ministers, Chief Secretary A P Padhi and several other officials were among the dignitaries who were present when Prof. Lal was administered the oath of office.

The swearing-in ceremony was followed by State Guard of Honour presented by Odisha Police at Raj Bhawan.

President Ram Nath Kovind had appointed Prof. Lal as the Governor of Odisha on May 25.

The post had fallen vacant in March this year after Governor S C Jamir had completed his tenure. Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik was having additional charge of Odisha since March 21 after Governor Jamir completed his tenure.

Prof. Lal is a former president of BJP’s Haryana State unit. He had also served as the Food Supplies Minister of Haryana.

Prof. Lal was the national president of the BJP’s Disciplinary Committee.

Earlier in the day, Prof Lal had paid a visit to Shree Jagannath temple in Puri to have a darshan of the Lords.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had made all arrangement for smooth darshan of the Lords by the Governor designate.

On reaching Singhadwar (Lions Gate) Prof Lal was given a warm welcome by the district and temple administration and escorted into the temple premises for darshan of the Lords.

The Governor designate spent around half an hour inside the temple.

“I feel happy after having darshan of Lord Jagannath. I will work as the protector of the Constitution. My emphasis will be to ensure that government’s welfare schemes reach the downtrodden,” said Prof. Lal speaking to reporters after visiting the temple.
