Gangaur Vrat is observed by women for the well being of their husband and marital bliss. It is observed on the first day of ‘Chaitra’ month and continues for the next 16 or 18 days.

The Gangaur Vrat and puja is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It also commemorates the divine marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Gangaur Vrat 2022 Start Date: March 19, Saturday.

Pratipada Tithi Begins: March 18, 2022 12:47 PM.

Pratipada Tithi Ends: March 19, 2022 11:37 AM.

Rituals: Gangaur Puja starts with collection of ashes from the Holika Dahan, followed by burial of barley seeds and wheat in it. These seeds are watered daily till germination.

Women make colourful idols of Goddess Gauri with wood or clay. Goddess Gauri is worshipped everyday with utmost devotion and dedication.

Traditional folk songs are sung during the puja. On the last day of the Gangaur puja, the idols are worshipped by the observer of Gangaur Vrat along with other married women.

In the evening, the idol is taken for immersion in the nearest water body.

Women observing Gangaur Vrat eat only one meal per day.
