Gangrape survivor made to shuttle between places covering over 95 km in toto for medical examination

Keonjhar: A gangrape victim woman was allegedly carried by a team of policemen from Soso station of Keonjhar district from one place to another covering a total distance of more than 95 km for her medical examination on Thursday, a source said today.

This incident has raised the eyebrows of many local residents and intelligentsia.

According to the source, the woman was gangraped on Wednesday evening and she lodged an FIR with Soso police citing her plight on the next day. Following which, she was initially taken to a hospital in Anandapur, which is around 28 km away from Soso. However, a doctor at the health facility returned the police team along with the woman saying that it does not come under Soso police limits.

Later, the victim was taken about 34 kilometres away from Anandapur to a hospital in Salania. As no doctor was available to carry out the examination, she was brought back to Anandapur.

The gangrape survivor had to wait at the sub-divisional hospital in Anandapur till 9 pm sitting inside the police vehicle for the medical examination.

It is pertinent to mention, the woman is a resident of Mayurbhanj district. She had recently come to her maternal aunt’s house at Ucchadahi village under Soso police limits of Keonjhar for a visit.

The woman had gone to Gohirabani Chhak along with her cousin brother and was sitting at a shop on an intervening evening. Her brother left for another place for some personal work.

Taking advantage of the woman sitting alone, two ill-motivated youths came to her riding a motorcycle. The miscreants convinced the woman to drop her at her maternal aunt’s house. They raped her on the way at a secluded place near a mango orchard.
