Ganjam announces closure of all religious places amid COVID surge

Berhampur: In view of the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases, the Ganjam administration has announced closure of all religious places in the district for devotees from today till January 31.

However, rituals at the religious places will continue with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said the district administration took the decision to prevent crowding at the religious places amid the Omicron situation.

All COVID-related guidelines issued by the Odisha Government will be strictly implemented in the district. Unvaccinated persons will not be allowed to enter malls while feasts at public places will be prohibited, the Collector said.

Our aim is to lessen non-essential activities so that spread of the virus can be contained, he added.
