Last rites of nine Ganjam bus tragedy victims performed

Ganjam: Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at a crematorium of Dankalpadu village under Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district as mortal remains of eight Ganjam bus tragedy victims were consigned to flames today evening. Funeral of the ninth victim was performed in his village.

Family and relatives of the deceased stood at a distance with tearful eyes while the last rites were performed.

The deceased were identified as B. Taraneya, K. Sanju, B. Kankamma, Santoshi Sahu, B. Rameya, B. Achulu, CH Kamaraju, B. Tarini and B. Mohini.

Meanwhile, Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra informed the Golanthara police registered a case suo motu under Sections 279, 304 (A), 337 and 338 of IPC. He further said the Berhampur Additional SP has been given charge to probe the incident.

Following the incident, driver of the bus is absconding.

Earlier in the day, nine persons were electrocuted to death and over 25 injured after a bus came in contact with a live electric wire at Mendarajpur square in Ganjam district.

The passengers were on their way to attend an engagement ceremony when the bus came in contact with an 11 KV power transmission line.
